Use-case: Bill shock prevention

A major regional operator in North America provides national roaming with its partners. It was extremely interested in getting new market offerings to subscribers; in fact, it had no roaming offerings at all in its product catalogue.

But its existing BSS was not able to accommodate its requirements in spite of considerable investment. Further, the carrier also wanted to get realtime visibility into subscriber data usage, something it could not achieve with its legacy set up. At the same time, regulation was passed that enforced the provision of a national data bill shock service for all subscribers. 

DigitalRoute Policy Control’s Usage Management Module delivered a local bill shock solution using via the Gy interface. A Standard Data product was constructed as a month-to-month plan with BILL a set amount of data usage for an individual subscriber. The carrier is now providing 3 new services to 500,000 of its customers.

Today, thanks to Policy Control, the VP IT has a system which enables him to act as an enabler for marketing and business development.
